3. Non Banking Financial Services
Since the coming into effect of the Financial Services Development Act 2001, non banking financial services including global business activities, the stock exchange and the insurance sector have been grouped under the umbrella and general supervision of the Financial Services Commission. A number of our clients operate in the non banking financial services sector and we have, over the years, followed the evolution of the legal and regulatory framework within which these sectors have been called upon to operate. We have also kept abreast with and worked in close collaboration with the Financial Services Commission, thus gaining a proper understanding of its operations and mission.

4. Banking
The banking sector has undergone major changes worldwide as in Mauritius over the past few years. A new regulatory framework was introduced in 2006 with the coming into effect of a new Banking Act followed by the consequential adjustments which operators of the banking sector were called upon to adhere to. We have keenly followed the above changes and have steered a number of our clients through those transitional moments. We have advised a number of banking institutions on legal issues respecting banking transactions and are well versed with the operation of multi jurisdictional transactions involving banks and financial institutions. We have had the privilege of having a number of international banking institutions of repute amongst our client base and have also been called upon to collaborate with the World Bank on the compilation of jurisdictional reports and surveys.

5. Employment law
The practice of labour law and more general aspects of the Mauritian employment law, is an important aspect of our practice. We offer a complete range of services respecting industrial relations including assisting in disciplinary committees, advising on labour matters and trade union relations, assisting in the setting up and implementation of codes of conduct, assisting in the handling of labour disputes and providing litigation services in labour issues. We are also very involved in the drafting of contracts of employment and are equally familiar with the legal aspects of expatriate employment.

6. Cross Border transactions
Ever since the opening up of the Mauritian economy to the creation of a financial services sector in 1992, we have been involved in and witnessed the evolution of the global business sector in Mauritius. We accordingly have considerable exposure to the operation of global business activities and are perfectly comfortable working with any law firm in the world as part of a cross border transaction. Over the years we have gathered considerable experience in dealing with a great variety of cross border transactions including the setting up of collective investment vehicles, trusts, mergers and acquisitions and financing transactions. We are also very familiar with the operation of tax treaties and the structuring of transactions maximising on treaty benefits.

We appear mostly before the Intermediate court, the Industrial court, the Bankruptcy court and the Supreme Court and our most common areas of practice include labour law, contract and commercial law, injunctions, intellectual property law and property law cases.

8. Trust
Our firm has been actively involved in witnessing the introduction of a legal framework for the setting up and management of trusts in 1992. With the coming into effect of the Trusts Act 2001, we have extended our practice of trust law to dealing with growing numbers of domestic trusts, especially in the field of pensions.
